Sorry voor de Nederlandstaligen onder ons, maar ik schrijf vanaf nu in t Engels zodat anderen dit ook kunnen lezen.
So what now? After beeing back in Belgium for 1 week now, it is clear that Sweden stole my heart. Sounds very dramatic, but it's like that. I went to Sweden for several reasons, like learning the language, spending my holidays etc. One of the main reasons though was to find out the negative aspects of the country. One has to stay very neutral in making an important decission as this... moving from Antwerp to central Sweden. And that's what I tried to do. But they were hard to find, the negative aspects. What I missed the most were the high quality vegetables and fruits like we do have in Belgium, the big restaurantmenus we have.
For me the main motivation to go away from Belgium is that living here is too hectic, too individual, to much focussed on making money, too few insights in the fact that we need nature on the long term, overpopulation, I miss full darkness-silence moments. You always hear, see and smell something in this country.
Some years ago I thought that I should maybe live one day in the south of Europe. Though the south of Europe is not in line with my ideas of what I expect from a government, climate, people. Spain is a great (maybe even the best) holidaydestination, but I could never live there. Sweden always attracted me because of its climate. Snow and ice is for me like for some of you hot temperatures and sunshine is. You just can't get enough of it. But in those days I understood that moving to a country just for its climate would be a bit too easy. After recent years though there seems to be no other way... The last month had an enormous impact in how I see things in this world, how people treat eachother, how my professional life should look like, how Sam's and my future should look like. Slowly you'll see that things in our life will change into a direction which will allow us to make the step to move. A job is anyway the first thing we need. I believe that people will respect you more if you show you're planning to contribute to the country. The language is going to be a continuous training, hopefully Glossa organizes the course again in February like mentioned recently. For the ones interested in Glossa, check this site: www.glossa-sweden.com . Recent developments gave me an fantastic feeling of freedom, which I hope all of you can have, whether that is linked to a country or by changing your lifes completely or by doing what you are, etc. It's fantastic to experience this, and that we live in a world allowing us.
This blog started as a window for me to explain to some of you what Uppsala looks like. As from today it will be the place to find out how the future for Sam and me is changing. Hopefuly one day it will be written from sweden...
Jeroen
