Into the mountains

Last Tuesday Sam and I travelled along with a group of 50 other tourists into the mountains. We made a stop on the (almost) highest point of the island, the Pico Ruivo, than continued further to the north. The nothern side is much more green due the oceanmoisture that is being pushed in by the Passat winds. The moisture is btw not falling down as rain on the island (Madeira has only 60 so called raindays per year). It is the clouds that pass along to top of the mountains as mist that are being picked up by the plants and trees and flows down in small rivers and canals to the lower parts of the island.
Thanks to all this water, the island is pretty green and has the possibility to grow bananatrees and all other kinds of fruits and vegetables and flowers ofcourse. If you`d look on the worldmap you see that Madeira lies as much south as Morocco does and therefor has lot`s of energy to let the plants grow.
